Deparmental Information

Biomedical engineering is the field which seeks to close the gap between engineering and medicine. It combines the design and problem solving skills of engineering with medical and biological sciences to improve healthcare diagnosis, monitoring and therapy.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES FOR STUDENTS:

1. Apply fundamental knowledge of mathematics, including differential equations and statistics, biology, physiology, physical sciences, and engineering to solve the problems at the interface of engineering and biology.
2. Design and conduct biomedical relevant experiments, to quantitatively analyze and interpret data from living and non-living systems, and to solve problems associated with interaction between living and non-living materials and systems.
3. Design a system, component, or process to tackle biomedical engineering problems within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health, safety, regulation, manufacturability and sustainability.
4. Function on multi-disciplinary teams.
5. Apply the phases of design (need identification, problem definition, synthesis analysis, optimization, evaluation, and presentation) in order to propose a feasible solution to a variety of biomedical problems.
6. Understanding of professional and ethical responsibility required of all engineering, and the unique ethical responsibilities of engineers working in health-related fields.
7. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing on technical issues related to biomedical engineering.
8. Possess a broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context.
9. Recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in lifelong learning.
10.Demonstrate knowledge of contemporary issues related to biomedical engineering.
11.Use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for solving biomedical engineering problems.

For F.E. students of all branches, there are separate classrooms and practical labs available which are located at the ground floor of the Main-Building and come under the first year department.

Utilization of Laboratory: 12 Hrs/Week, Second Year Engineering (S.E.), Bio-medical Branch
Laboratory Resources:

HAP lab is equipped with Human body model including all organs, skeletal, Blood testing solutions including WBC, RBC & HB count, blood group detection using Microscope etc. Also lab includes all human body system charts. A dark room setup is also there for the optic experiments. Teaching is enhanced by the use of models and charts in the class room.

BMI lab includes spectrophotometer, Colorimeter, pH meter & other blood testing instruments, short wave diathermy & microwave diathermy, Ultrasound therapy, It includes ECG ,EMG ,EEG ,EOG, PCG, Pulse Oximter, digital B.P. Meter, Electrocautery machine, Ventilator, O.T.lights etc.

TBI & Biosensor Lab is equipped with various types of electrodes and transducer kits. It includes different types of ECG,EEG,EMG electrodes, thermocouple and Doppler shift transducer, Stethoscope, Blood pressure mercury and digital type, thermometer(mercury & digital), transducer kits of strain guage, photoelectric, piezo electric, LVDT etc. Also it is equipped with CRO, Function generator, power supply (single as well as dual),digital multimeter.
